Quotes of the Day

These came from a lecture today given by one of my neuroanatomy professors:

1. "It's not that I CAN'T dance....I'm just more Freeform than other people!"

2. "I mean if you are talking to a psychopathic murderer while in the bar you should be able to pick up some cues!!"

NOTE TO SELF: NEVER read the warning label on the back of anything! Of course I am the one who reads the back of my fake tanning lotion which states "rarely do severe reactions such as shortness of breath occur while using this product." I just applied the stuff and how do I feel you ask????!!!! Short of breath....but maybe I just got worn out from the application process....haha... I mean there is a lot of white to try to cover up!

The Pales of being a REDHEAD

Here is the deal: I am going to Florida in 1 month (about) and in my head I am picturing myself tan and in a pretty flowing dress on the beach for the wedding. Problem #1: I don't have a pretty flowing dress. Problem #2 and probably the biggest problem of all: I DON'T tan....and yet, I find myself wanting to buy a tanning package just to see if I can get a couple shades darker. Problem #3: I am a GRAD student who has been programmed to look @ the latest research when anyone is trying to make a health claim to me. SO, I call up TanWorld (a local tanning salon) and ask what is so great about their 'Elite' bed. Apparently it only has UVA rays which are supposed to be the "tanning rays" and don't damage the top layer of your skin. Immediately I went to Google and typed in UVA vs. UVB. After scanning for a reliable source I began reading on how, in the early 90s, tanning salon began toting the idea that UVA rays don't cause skin damage because it targets the 2nd layer of skin AND, according to some, it was thought that cancer occurs on the first layer...because that is where we see it. BUT, welcome to the 21st century, turns out UVA rays cause damage where cancer begins...the damage is deeper than the first layer. So OBVIOUSLY my idea of getting a "safe" tan was crushed. Don't you just LOVE how 10 years from now we will again learn that everything we are doing will cause cancer!? Problem #4: I HATE the smell of fake tanning lotion and if I get a spray tan I am afraid I will be an orange redhead while all the other guest are beautifully bronzed and blond (mostly). However, that did not stop me from going to target last night to try the latest trend in tanning lotion, foam. Apparently it dries faster and I am hoping that the smell will be diluted. Problem #5: I still want to get a tan......sigh**** there is no hope!

Love Love

Not sure why but I think baby pigs are pretty much the cutest animals ever! I would love to have these little guys running around in my back yard! I watched Food, inc last night and it reminded me of my fondness for these animals. Joel Salatin is a farmer for polyface farms and he does everything right for his animals. He still eats meat but he gives every animal on his farm so much respect. The pigs literally ran up to him so that he would pet them. His view is that if we can't treat animals with respect than we will not treat other humans with respect. I couldn't agree more! Some people worried that this documentary would make me not want to eat anything. When in all actuality it made me want to go to the grocery store, and the farmers market, to buy the food that will help change the entire industry. The movie doesn't leave you feeling hopeless and that all food is bad, instead I felt empowered to make a change. To know that it is our money that drives the entire food industry makes me feel like even I can have an impact on our environment.

Plus it is always nice to hear your boyfriend say "you were right honey, I will buy organic food even if it does cost more money."

Attn: Mr/Ms J. Crew:

Why does this dress have to be so expensive? I love it and it would be perfect for the florida beach wedding I am attending. BUT no, I can't afford my own expensive taste. So, instead, I will be going to look @ forever 21 where the dress will probably fall apart while I am wearing it at the wedding! Hope Jess doesn't mind if I steal her thunder by flashing everyone.....better start working on my tan just in case!

French Toast, Ice cream cake & leg wrestling

Yep...that was my night! Made french toast for the first time ever....made some rookie mistakes and burned myself BUT it still tasted pretty good! The ice cream cake, well THAT was from Dairy Queen, orea cookie, DeLiCiOuS! And worth every once of phlem that I experienced afterwards. And last but not least I taught Zac how to leg wrestle (in case you don't know how.. you lie down next to eachother, feet by one another's head, count to three and then link legs in the air and see who can flip the other person over first). Did I mention that Zac is pretty much the FUNNEST boyfriend ever....

This is what happens on nights that I don't have to study..haha!

As a side note we also watched the movie 'Love Happens'.....Really cute! But it was based in Seattle and it made me miss the Northwest and shopping at any Farmer's market. I really like the Iowa Farmer's market BUT all the beautiful flowers in Seattle and there is a special place in my heart for the Ballard market. If I had a job I would call up my mom and have her meet me in Seattle for a weekend of shopping......some day!
